Schools & Events

As a trained teacher with lots of classroom experience and
10 years’ experience running workshops, tours and talks in museums, I love visiting schools and working with children, in both formal and informal settings.

School offer

  • Successful school visits are the best thing ever and I will help any school prepare for my visit.
On booking, schools will receive information packs, containing advice for helping my visit go smoothly and a short excerpt from my book to share with kids before my visit.

  • All my sessions include a reading and time for a Q&A. I actively encourage children to ask questions!

  • I’m always thrilled to sign books (preferably my own) and love working with local independent bookshops to arrange pre-visit book orders that can then be signed on the day.

  • Day and half-day school visits can be made up of any activities from the menu below, for example: a half-day booking might consist of a KS1 assembly, a KS2 assembly plus time for author signings. A full-day booking could involve one assembly and up to four workshops or two assemblies and up to three workshops, plus time for signings.

  • Downloadable resources are available for Chocolate Milk, X-Ray Spec & Me, How To Steal The Mona Lisa and why not print a poster for your classroom?

  • Letter-Writing, Voice and Inference

Key Stage 1 (& EYFS)

Assembly or workshop: Do Lions Hate Haircuts?

A HAIRY picture book session for KS1, involving a reading, movement and drawing. This can be run as an assembly (space permitting) or for individual classes. The ‘Writing Picture Books’ workshop can also be adapted for KS1 classes.
Lasts up to 30 minutes.

Events for libraries, bookshops, festivals

I love devising creative activities for events. If you are interested in inviting me along to an event you are running, please get in touch using my contact form. Whether you want children to create their own Mona Lisa mysteries, learn how to become code-breakers, or become lion mane stylists, I can plan a fun activity to suit any age or audience and would love to hear from you.

Costs and Bookings

My school visits (both in-person and virtual) are now managed by Authors Abroad. You are still welcome to make initial contact with me, using my contact form, or you can find my page on the Authors Abroad website here.

Testimonials

“Bethany presented such a fun and interactive workshop.  The children were captivated by explanations of her writing process; Beth was brilliant at relating to the children as writers and she has influenced quite a few budding authors!  She was encouraging and involved the whole class in creative activities - our children loved designing their own spy gadgets inspired by Bethany's book.  We have had a lot of requests for a return visit and would love to welcome Beth back to Wrawby St Mary’s any time.”

- Ms Oliver, Wrawby St Mary’s CofE Primary School

“We had the best time when Beth came in to see us! We designed our own spy weapons and let our imaginations go mad.  Beth read some of her book to us and it made us want to read it ourselves! We also played a game where Beth taught us how to be observant, excellent detectives.”
- Mr Cooke, Year 5, Scotter Primary School

“The feedback from children and staff has been amazing and it's clear that everybody in Year 4 loved the sessions and the Writing challenge you set. The video for the assembly was brilliant as well and I know lots of children have come up with some amazing ideas for spy gadgets.”
- Hillyfield Primary School (virtual session)

“Thank you for this afternoon, the kids loved it. They were really keen to ask their questions as several of them are very good at story writing and it's something they are thinking of doing when they are older.”
- Bassingham Primary School (virtual session)
